Just 46 minutes from the Gîte, discover the remains of the Gallo-Roman villa of Lassalles, in Montmaurin. One of the largest known in France. The villa discovered in 1946 was built around the middle of the 1st century AD, then modified in the 3rd and up to the 5th century.
It is one of the largest known villas in France: its buildings extended over an area of 19 hectares. It had no less than 200 rooms, which enjoyed a certain comfort. Decorated with marble or mosaics, their windows were glazed and they had underfloor heating and running water.
The excavations revealed the remains of the vestibule, the temple, the nymphaeum, several courtyards and numerous living rooms. The outbuildings included housing for 500 forge employees, a tile-brickworks and a weaving workshop.
